This year, my mom and I are doing a 52 project, inspired by the 52-week challenge at Dogwood Photography. We’re starting a little late, so we’re still on week one, even though it’s January 15th.
Better late than never.
We’ll both share our take on the current prompt/challenge, and odds are good that our interpretations are going to be pretty different, since our photography styles are kind of opposites.
This week’s assignment is a selfie, taken with the timer on the camera.
Kristen: Since I spend time most days correcting math, I thought a math-correcting selfie would be appropriate. This was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Selfies are, uh, not my strong suit.
Joshua: I like to spend a lot of time biking and roaming the woods, so I decided to go to a local park and snap a picture.
If you’d like to keep up with our project, sign up for the email version of our posts, over there to the right in the sidebar. That way you’ll get our weekly photos right in your email inbox.
K-Love the crossed toes and the fact that you’re a lefty. I’m no longer flexible enough to sit comfortably on the floor like that, so this photo makes me a bit nostalgic for my former Gumby self.
J-It looks like you photoshopped yourself onto the landscape. Love the effect and your use of color.
Ooh, this is going to be fun. Thanks for letting us come along on this journey.
I never knew I crossed my toes like that until yesterday! I took a bunch of shots of myself, and in almost all of them, my toes are crossed.
I’ve never been super great at sitting cross-legged on the floor, so I’ve been working hard at that since we started martial arts. I still don’t like to do it for a really long time, but I’m way better at it than I used to be.
You both did a great job with the selfies. I am looking forward to this post. I think it will be interesting because of the Mother and Son angle of writing and photography. 🙂
I think that part of it is going to be interesting too! Opposite takes on an identical assignment…
Nice. I like that neither of these pictures look staged. They don’t even look timed. Not like I gotta hurry and smile because the camera will click soon. 🙂
Enjoying this and loved the photos! FG — great shot, and the toe thing is fascinating :)!
Josh–lovely! Can’t wait to see how you both influence the other!
You guys keep me smilin’
I like the idea! Looking forward to your posts. 🙂
I love both pictures. Very talented people you are!
both photos are stunning
I would never consider these selfies without you calling them such. Much better than your usual self-absorbed selfie. Kudos to the both of you.
Oh, this will be fun! Looking forward to seeing the photos.
Even your selfies follow your bent: a black and white portrait for Kristin and a small figure in a large landscape for Joshua. Love it! Neat project.
Both pics are excellent, and agree with the the post that said I wouldn’t have considered these as the “usual self absorbed selfie”. Joshua’s is truly noteworthy. His silhouette against the rich colors…it’s compelling.
These are really thoughtful pictures. I’m looking forward to this series!
